Self Sufficiency

Living on an island is a wonderful experience. It is where the sounds of nature, waves, birds, gentle sea breezes become the background music to your daily life here. There is a vibrant color and freshness to everything that is uplifting. It is where the ordinary become beautiful as you tune more into nature.

This handbook is to enable you to become self sufficient on the island. Living on an island means that your goods have to be shipped in. You will find information in this handbook that will enable you to set up your own accounts in Suva , for food, alcohol, fuel and hardware so that you can deal directly with these stores, the shipping company and transport.

Taveuni Development Company will help people in their initial move over to the island but TDC is not a shopping service for lot owners.

The resort has limited supplies for its own use. The resort phone is private business phone so please buy or rent a mobile phone when you arrive at Nadi Airport . (The number 123 can put you through to directory assistance and can actually connect your call for you.)

Drugs and Alcohol

Marijuana and other drugs are illegal in Fiji and you can be deported or imprisoned for using them.

Alcohol is not part of Fijian culture - Fijians drink kava.

Drunkenness is not acceptable behavior.

Think of something else rather than alcohol as a present.
